Lyrics

Pass It On
Nancy B. Brewer

I used to hide in the shadows,
Memories of my past haunted my nights,
You are not worthy, echoes filled my mind,
My hope was fading, and my world stood still,
But in my darkest hour, I found the light.

I was just a sinner, running on empty,
Searching for a way, with no hope in sight.
How did I know I would find a friend?
He lifted me up and invited me in.

I had seen that old man a time or two,
Somehow, I knew he was there just for me.
He took my hand and shared God’s word,
Such good news I had never heard.

I was just a sinner, running on empty,
Searching for a way, with no hope in sight.
How did I know I would find a friend?
He lifted me up and invited me in.

When I asked how to repay him for such a gift,
He just said, Pass it on, Brother, to the night shift.

I never saw that old man again,
But I still think about him every now and then,
I wonder if he was one of God’s angels sent to deliver me.
Two years later, I go to church, got a good wife and job.
I owe it all to that old man, who introduced me to Jesus.

I was just a sinner, running on empty,
Searching for a way, with no hope in sight.
How did I know I would find a friend,
He lifted me up and invited me in.

Then one night I was working late,
Weary and searching for where I parked my car.
Hiding in the shadows, I saw a young man,
He was all alone, overcome by despair,
He said he had no friends to call.

That old man’s words echoed in my heart,
Pass it on, brother, to the night shift,

The young man said he had seen me a time or two,
Somehow, I knew God had sent me just for him.
I took his hand and shared God’s word,
Such good news, He had never heard.

We are all just sinners.
Sometimes we all need a friend to take our hand, lift us up, and
remind us of God’s love. It’s good news we need to hear.
Pass it on, Pass it on. Pass it on.
Someone is in the shadows is waiting for a friend like you.
